Jürg Huber is a Lecturer at the Lucerne School of Music (HSLU), part of Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. He holds dual roles as Study Coordinator for the BA School Music II program and researcher at the Music Education Research (MER) Center. His academic career includes studies in school music, conducting, musicology, music ethnology, and media linguistics at the Lucerne Academy for School and Church Music and the University of Zurich. Huber has extensive teaching experience in secondary schools and choral direction, alongside his current research focus on school music history and pedagogical practices.
His research explores Swiss school music discourses (1970–2010), institutional histories, and music education standards. He actively participates in projects like 'Musik Learning Switzerland' and 'Extended Competency Profiles in the Arts'. Huber co-edits the 'Kulturen der Schulmusik in der Schweiz' collection and publishes widely on music pedagogy, cultural studies, and historical analyses. He serves on academic committees including the Swiss Association for Music Education and has organized major conferences such as the 2018 'Kulturen der Schulmusik' symposium.
Huber's interdisciplinary work bridges musicology, education, and cultural studies, with a particular emphasis on discourse analysis and institutional critique. His publications span books, peer-reviewed articles, and commissioned reports, reflecting his commitment to advancing music education theory and practice in Switzerland.
