Júlio César Bicca-Marques is a Full Professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) and a Research Fellow of Brazil's National Research Council (CNPq). He holds a Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2000), alongside degrees from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (B.Sc., 1986) and the University of Brasília (M.Sc., 1991). His expertise spans ecology, conservation biology, primatology, and scientific writing, with a focus on non-human primate research.
He has served as Director of PUCRS's Graduate Program in Zoology (2007–2011) and President of the Brazilian Primatological Society (2003–2004). His affiliations include Research Associate at UIUC’s Department of Anthropology and roles in conservation organizations like the IUCN Primate Specialist Group. He has authored nearly 100 scientific publications, two books, and contributed to environmental policy through work at Brazil’s IBAMA and Ministry of Environment (1991–1993).
Recipient of the 2012 Ecofuturo Prize for Sustainability Education, Bicca-Marques also chairs editorial boards of four international journals and advises funding agencies globally. His teaching spans ecology at Federal University of Acre (1993–1995) and UIUC (1999), emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to conservation and human behavior.
