Jörg Vianden

Jörg Vianden is a Professor in the Department of Student Affairs Administration at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He studies college student persistence and men and masculinities in higher education, with a focus on social justice advocacy. His work includes the book Got Solidarity? Challenging Straight White College Men to Advocate for Social Justice (Routledge, 2020) and numerous articles on campus diversity, student-faculty dynamics, and identity dissonance.

Vianden's research explores systemic inequities in higher education, particularly how white college men engage (or resist) diversity requirements, the role of academic advising in student loyalty, and microaggressions in college classrooms. Scientific awards include the Teaching Award and an Invited Workshop at Netzwerk Führung und Karriere in der Wissenschaft-Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, und Thüringen (2024). His work has been published in journals like the International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, GMS Journal for Medical Education, and Sport Management Education Journal.

Vianden's professional history spans roles as Hall Director at Iowa State University (1999-2001), Area Director at Indiana University (2001-2006), and Associate Director positions at the University of Oregon and University of Arkansas (2006-2010) before joining UWL as Assistant Professor (2010-2014), then Associate Professor (2014-2019), and Professor since 2020. He served as Department Chair from 2017 to 2020.
