Jörg Schilling is a Professor and Managing Director leading the 'Silicon-to-Light' research group at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg. He holds a PhD in Physics from the same university (2002) and has conducted postdoctoral research at Caltech (2002-2005) and Queen's University Belfast (2005-2009). His research spans nanophotonics, photonic crystals, plasmonics, and semiconductor nanostructures.
Key research areas include silicon photonics, metamaterials, nonlinear optics, and quantum dot integration. He has pioneered studies on 3D photonic crystals using macroporous silicon and developed novel approaches for light manipulation. Awards include the Royal Society University Research Fellowship (2005).
Publications focus on topics like second-harmonic generation in silicon, plasmonic sensing, and hyperbolic metamaterials. His work has been published in journals such as Nature Photonics, Applied Physics Letters, and Optics Express.
Lab activities include the ZIK SiLi-nano® initiative, which explores advanced silicon-based nanophotonic technologies. Collaborations involve institutions like the Max Planck Institute and Caltech.
