PD Dr. Jörg Meurer is a Research Professor and Staff Scientist at the Department of Plant Sciences, Faculty of Biology, Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU). His research focuses on plastid RNA metabolism and assembly of photosynthetic complexes, with expertise in chloroplast gene expression regulation and proteomics. He holds a Diploma in Botany from Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf (1992), completed his PhD in Botany (1996) and Habilitation (2005) at LMU Munich. Professional highlights include postdoctoral fellowships at Friedrich-Schiller University Jena and the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research. Since 1999, he has led projects at LMU’s Plant Sciences section, organizing the Proteomics Service since 2013. His teaching encompasses Bachelor/Master courses in plant biology. He also serves as Radiation Protection Commissioner and Safety Officer. Research contributions span chloroplast RNA stability, photosystem assembly, and stress responses, with over 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Education:
- 1986-1992: Diploma in Botany, Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf
- 1992-1996: PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) in Botany, supervised by Prof. Peter Westhoff
- 2005: Habilitation in Botany, LMU Munich
Research Interests:
- Plastid RNA metabolism and regulation
- Photosynthetic complex assembly mechanisms
- Chloroplast biogenesis and stress responses
- Proteomics of chloroplast components
Recent Article Trends: Focus on chloroplast epitranscriptomics, thylakoid protein dynamics, and stress response mechanisms. Recent work explores RNA editing via designer proteins, ubiquitin-mediated protein interactions, and nucleotide metabolism impacts on photosynthesis.
Lab Activities: Leads the Proteomics Service at LMU Biocenter, providing cutting-edge proteomic analysis for plant research. Collaborates in the Green Hub consortium studying plant acclimation mechanisms.
