Dr. Jörg Klasmeier is a Researcher at the Institute for Environmental Systems Research, University of Osnabrück. His work focuses on georeferenced environmental modeling, microplastics in the environment, and chemical assessment of pollutants in aquatic systems. He has taught courses such as Environmental Systems Analysis, Introduction to Systems Science, and Data and Models from 1999 to 2018.
- Doctorate in Ecological Chemistry and Geochemistry, University of Bayreuth
- Degree in Food Chemistry, Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg
His research involves multimedia pollutant modeling, pharmaceutical risk assessment, and microplastic distribution in freshwater and marine environments. He has developed and applied the GREAT-ER software for watershed-scale simulations.
Recent publications analyze antibiotic-resistant bacteria in transboundary rivers, citizen science applications for nitrate pollution monitoring, and pharmaceutical transport in aquatic systems. His work combines GIS-based spatial analysis with chemical fate modeling to address environmental risks.
Projects include microplastic source identification in water bodies, zinc concentration modeling in the Ruhr River basin, and textile fiber pollution assessments. He supervises B.Sc. and M.Sc. theses and leads student projects since 2000.
