Józef Raatz

Professor Józef Raatz is a distinguished musician affiliated with the Faculty II – Instrumental at the Gdańsk University of Music Stanisław Moniuszki. He is renowned as a principal oboist, chamber musician, and ensemble leader, with a 52-year career spanning performances across Poland and Europe. His professional journey began post-graduation from the Gdańsk music school in 1968, where he joined the Baltic Opera and Philharmonic as principal oboist. He has led ensembles such as the Gdańsk Reed Trio and Wind Quintet, significantly impacting Gdańsk's orchestral standards.

He has collaborated with prestigious orchestras including the Polish Chamber Philharmonic and Schola Cantorum Gedanensis, performing over a dozen works as a soloist. Internationally, he toured with groups like the Kraków Opera and Capella Gedanensis, appearing at festivals like Warsaw Autumn and Pelplin’s Organ and Chamber Music Festival. His discography includes radio and CD recordings of chamber music.

Professor Raatz has earned accolades including two third prizes at the 1970 National Chamber Music Festival. His legacy includes over 100 international tours and contributions to Gdańsk’s musical landscape through chamber music advocacy.
