Ján Slávik is a Professor at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, affiliated with the Faculty of Music and Dance and the Department of String, Wind and Percussion Instruments. He has been teaching since 1993 and holds the title of University Professor in Musical Art, awarded by the President of Slovakia in 2012. His roles include concertmaster of the cello group at the Slovak Philharmonic (since 2008) and membership in the Berger Trio (since 2010).
Education: Studied cello at Bratislava Conservatory with G. Večerný and K. Filipovič, continued at the Academy of Performing Arts under J. Podhoranský, and pursued chamber music studies in Vienna at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst with F. Samohyl and G. Pichler.
Research and Artistic Activity: Specializes in cello performance, including solo and ensemble work. Notable achievements include over 40 CDs with the Moyzes Quartet (founded in 1975), 15+ solo recordings, and premieres of cello concertos by contemporary composers. In 2020, he recorded Bach’s complete cello suites for the second time. Active in festival creation, he founded the International Jazz and Chamber Music Festival 'Hudba Modre,' the Slovak Arts Festival 'Hudba Trnave,' and the International Divergence Festival in Skalica (since 2010).
Awards: Recognized nationally for his contributions to musical art through the 2012 presidential appointment. His artistic projects span international collaborations and cultural initiatives.
