Justus Westerhoff

Justus Westerhoff is a Researcher at Berlin School of Economics and Law (BHT Berlin), participating in the interdisciplinary DFG-funded project 'Berlin Initiative for Applied Foundation Model Research' (Appl-FM) since April 2024. He holds a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Münster (2021), specializing in differential geometry and topology. Prior to this, he worked as a Research Engineer at GRIMME, focusing on sensor technology, computer vision, and machine/reinforcement learning within the automation technology team.

His research interests encompass Deep Learning, Continual Learning, Biologically-Inspired Neural Networks, and Neuroscience, with applications in robotics and predictive medicine. The Appl-FM project, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), aims to advance Foundation Model research tailored for robotics, quantitative biology, and medical diagnostics, emphasizing robustness, fairness, and explainability in AI systems.

Westerhoff contributes to the Graduate School of Data Science +X and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects such as Human.VR.Lab (BMBF) and GCA (BMUV). He is contactable via email and LinkedIn.
