Justin Williams is Associate Professor of History and co-chair of the History Department at University of Detroit Mercy, where he also directs the African American Studies Program. He earned his PhD from Stony Brook University and specializes in modern African politics and diaspora studies.
His research examines Pan-Africanism, African socialism, and post-colonial political developments, with particular focus on Ghanaian political history and the impact of neoliberalism. His book Pan-Africanism in Ghana analyzes ideological shifts from African socialism to neoliberal globalization.
Dr. Williams' publications trace themes of African political leadership, diaspora engagement, and media representations of African politics across historical periods. His comparative work examines figures like Nkrumah, Rawlings and Sankara while investigating how African diaspora communities influence political discourse.
