Justin W Walley serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology at Iowa State University and Chair of the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Graduate Program.
Education:
- Ph.D., University of California - Davis, 2009
- M.S., Miami University, 2005
- B.S., University of Mount Union, 2001
His research investigates molecular mechanisms of plant growth, development, and environmental responses through mass spectrometry-based proteomics, specializing in quantification of protein abundance and post-translational modifications (phosphorylation, acetylation, ubiquitylation). The Walley Lab integrates proteomic data with transcriptomic and other omics datasets using systems biology approaches to generate testable hypotheses via biochemical and genetic methodologies. Core research areas include Plant-Microbe Interactions, Systems Biology, and Omics Integration.
Research Funding and Mentoring:
- NSF grant (2021) with Aman Husband's lab examining transcription factor function
- NSF grant (2021) with Diane Bassham's lab studying regulatory networks controlling autophagy
- USDA predoctoral fellowship awarded to student Max (2021)
The Walley Lab operates as a dedicated research unit advancing plant systems biology through innovative proteomic and computational techniques, maintaining active collaborations across multiple research groups.
