Justin Quinnell is an Associate Lecturer in Photography at Falmouth University, where he has taught for 22 years. Specializing in pinhole photography and camera obscura techniques, he also leads experimental photography initiatives globally. He holds a BA(Hons) in Photography from the University of Derby (1983).
His professional engagement includes international lectures and workshops at events like the Experimental Photography Festival in Barcelona and World Pinhole Day. Quinnell co-founded the Real Photography Company in 2017, a Bristol-based Community Interest Company managing the St Pauls Learning Centre darkrooms. This initiative promotes traditional and experimental photography through courses, exhibitions, and community projects like the Chemistry of Light Schools Project and Winter Warmer Workshops.
Key community projects include the Eclipse Experience Event (2022), funded by the Institute of Physics, and the Windrush Community Project (2021-2022), commemorating Bristol’s Windrush Generation. He also developed the Photography Lockdown Project (2020) during the pandemic, offering free online workshops.
