Dr. Justin Persico is an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Medical Oncology) at the Yale School of Medicine and serves as Medical Director of the Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Centers at Trumbull and Fairfield. He specializes in gastrointestinal oncology, with a focus on colorectal and gastrointestinal cancers, and actively integrates artificial intelligence into oncology research. He holds clinical appointments in Medical Oncology and Hematology, and is affiliated with the Yale Cancer Center.
Education: MD from Tufts University School of Medicine (2005), residency at University of California San Diego (2008), and fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Tufts-New England Medical Center (2012).
Research Interests: Early-onset gastrointestinal cancers, colorectal cancer treatment innovations, and AI applications in oncology. He leads and participates in national/international clinical trials, including trials for pancreatic, prostate, and lymphoma treatments.
Awards: Recipient of the Medical School Housestaff Teaching Award (2008) and the Bernadette Stohlman Research Fellowship (2005).
Clinical & Professional Activities: Sub-investigator in multiple Phase II/III trials, including studies on pembrolizumab/brentuximab vedotin for lymphoma and perioperative chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer. Active in patient care, medical education, and translational research.
