Dr. Justin P. Boren is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Santa Clara University, within the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication from Arizona State University and teaches courses in organizational communication, quantitative research methods, conflict management, and the biology of human communication. His research focuses on communicatively restricted organizational stress (CROS), work/life balance, and the physiological impacts of stress in workplaces.
Dr. Boren’s academic career includes roles such as President-elect of the Western States Communication Association and chair of the Santa Clara County Human Rights Commission. His scholarship explores how communication networks influence employee health outcomes and organizational culture, with notable contributions to understanding peer resentment’s role in hindering work/family policy utilization. He is currently developing interventions to reduce CROS in high-stress organizations.
Key research interests include social support dynamics, co-rumination effects, and the intersection of communication with physiological systems like the immune and endocrine systems. His work spans interdisciplinary topics such as healthcare communication, workplace well-being, and conflict resolution strategies.
