Justin Lavender is a Professor in the Vocal Studies department at the Royal College of Music (RCM). Originally persuaded by Peter Pears and Benjamin Britten to abandon nuclear engineering for music, he has built an international career as a tenor, performing leading roles in operas ranging from baroque to Wagner. His work spans collaborations with renowned conductors like Solti and Abbado, and he remains associated with major works such as Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius and Verdi’s Requiem. At RCM, he mentors students who have pursued successful careers, while continuing his performing and conducting engagements.
