Justin Frankeny serves as Lecturer of Music History at Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Performing Arts, having previously held a visiting assistant professor position during the 2023-24 academic year. He has also taught at Duquesne University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill while pursuing his Ph.D. in musicology at UNC Chapel Hill.

Frankeny specializes in musicological analysis of cultural identity and political contexts in music. His master's thesis examined distinction and exclusion mechanisms in progressive rock's 2000s resurgence using The Mars Volta as a primary case study. His doctoral dissertation investigates Cuban diaspora composers' navigation of contemporary art music amid migration and shifting U.S.-Cuba political-economic landscapes following the 1959 revolution, revealing intersections of exile, artistic expression, and institutional power structures.
