Jane Fulcher is a Professor of Musicology at the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theater, and Dance, with an affiliation to the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia. She holds a Ph.D. (1977), M.A. (1974), and B.M. (1972) from Columbia University and the University of the Arts (formerly Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts). Her research focuses on European music history, with seminal work on Debussy and broader cultural studies in music.
Notable achievements include the 2006 ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for her role in the Bard Music Festival/Princeton Paperback series, a 2003 Edward T. Cone Membership at Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study, and a National Humanities Center Fellowship. She has also been a visiting professor at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris).
Her scholarly contributions bridge music analysis and cultural critique, often exploring 19th- and 20th-century European composers within their sociohistorical contexts.
