Justin Bogart is an Associate Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) within the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics under Becton College. With a passion rooted in high school chemistry, he focuses on bridging experimental and theoretical knowledge through teaching and research. His academic journey includes a BA from Middlebury College and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.
His research centers on bioinorganic chemistry, specifically investigating metal ions in biologically relevant systems to design highly reactive model complexes. By mimicking structural motifs of metalloproteins, his lab aims to create structure-function relationships that advance biomimetic catalysis. Additional interests include the chemistry of f-block elements, particularly their role in methanol dehydrogenase activity in methanotrophic bacteria, for applications in sustainable energy and next-generation catalysts.
Teaching responsibilities include General Chemistry I/II (lecture and laboratory), Inorganic Chemistry (lecture and laboratory), and research mentorship in Inorganic Synthesis, Biomimetic Design, C-H Bond Activation, and Catalysis. He emphasizes critical thinking and experimental approaches in science education.
