Andy S. Borovik is a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), leading the Borovik Research Group. His research focuses on biomimetic chemistry, with an emphasis on designing synthetic systems that emulate biological metalloenzymes. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1986) and a B.S. from Humboldt State University (1981).
- Affiliations: Department of Chemistry, UCI; Borovik Research Group; Laboratory for Bio-Inspired Chemistry.
- Research Interests: Metal-oxo/hydroxido species, C-H bond activation, heterobimetallic complexes, and artificial metalloproteins. His work integrates principles from inorganic, organic, and biological chemistry to address challenges in catalysis and renewable energy.
Key projects include developing bioinspired catalysts for small molecule activation (e.g., dioxygen and carbon-hydrogen bonds) and mimicking enzyme active sites using non-covalent interactions. His group employs advanced spectroscopic techniques (e.g., EPR, XAS) and computational methods to study structure-reactivity relationships.
Selected accolades include the title of Distinguished Professor. His lab collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to explore applications in energy storage and sustainable chemistry.
