Dr. Juri Viehoff is an Associate Professor at the Ethics Institute within the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Utrecht University, joining in September 2023. Previously, she held roles including permanent lecturer (assistant professor) in political theory at the University of Manchester’s MANCEPT, Research Fellow at the European University Institute (2019-2021), and postdoc at the University of Zurich’s Center for Ethics.
Research: Her work focuses on moral and political philosophy, particularly economic ethics (PPE), social philosophy, and philosophy of technology. Key themes include the societal impact of AI technologies and the political morality of global governance institutions. She coordinates Utrecht’s research theme on “Autonomous Agency and Technology” and leads the faculty impact project “DigiWork” on digitalization of work.
Publications: Recent works include co-editing The Virtue of Solidarity (2024, Oxford UP) and articles on AI ethics, solidarity theory, and European integration. Her research combines philosophical analysis with interdisciplinary approaches from political economy, public policy, and law.
Awards: 2018 Robin Cosgrove Essay Prize in Ethics in Finance (shared with F. Bieber).
Teaching & Impact: Engages in interdisciplinary education and policy-oriented research, emphasizing real-world applications of philosophical inquiry. Her work often bridges academia and public discourse on urgent socio-political challenges.
