Junliang Tao is an Associate Professor at Arizona State University's School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, specializing in Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research bridges biology, mechanics, and engineering through Bio-inspired Geotechnics (BiG), focusing on self-burrowing robots, sustainable geosystems, and soil behavior.

His lab develops autonomous underground sensing networks and explores bio-mediated soil stabilization techniques inspired by nature. He teaches advanced courses in soil behavior, foundations, and geotechnical research.
Dr. Tao earned his Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University, M.S. from Tongji University, and B.S. from China University of Geosciences.
