Fernando Patino-Ramirez

Dr. Fernando Patino-Ramirez is an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London, affiliated with the Geotechnics section. He holds a doctoral degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology (2016–2020) and has conducted research at Université Grenoble Alpes (2018). His work focuses on advancing underground exploration technologies, bio-inspired transportation networks, and sustainable materials engineering.

Research highlights include the development of the BRISS burrowing robot, bio-inspired algorithms for network optimization, and Engineered Granular Mixtures (EGM) for eco-friendly infrastructure. He collaborates with Prof. Catherine O'Sullivan and has affiliations with Lab 3SR in France.

His technical contributions span granular media mechanics, robotic soil interaction, and computational modeling. Projects emphasize sustainability, such as reducing aggregate consumption and repurposing plastic waste through EGM.
