June Brown is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King's College London. She leads significant research on early intervention for depression and anxiety, particularly focusing on accessible community-based mental health interventions. Her current role involves directing major research projects including the DISCOVER-UK implementation study and the BESST trial follow-up study.
Her research interests center on early intervention in depression and anxiety, improving access to evidence-based treatments, and developing one-day CBT workshops for community settings. She specifically focuses on reaching underserved populations who don't typically seek mental health services, including ethnic minorities and males. Her work has adapted adult CBT workshops for adolescents and for women with post-natal depression, with a current large clinical trial evaluating day-long workshops for 900 16-18 year olds across 60 schools.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on school-based mental health interventions, CBT workshop effectiveness, and addressing health inequalities in mental healthcare access. Her research employs rigorous methodologies including randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, and qualitative approaches to understand barriers to help-seeking behavior.
