Jun Zhao is a Senior Researcher and Oxford Martin Fellow in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on ethical AI systems, particularly investigating algorithmic decision-making impacts on families and children. He leads projects like CHAILD (UKRI-funded) and EWADA (Oxford Martin School), collaborating with schools, technologists, and policymakers to address data privacy challenges. Zhao serves on advisory boards for AIEOU and Generation AI at Reuben College. His work emphasizes human-centered approaches to design technologies with real-world impacts, including speculative design tools like FamiData Hub and privacy frameworks such as Libertas. Key awards include CHI'25 and CHI'24 Honorable Mentions, as well as Best Paper awards at ConPro’23 and CHI'23. His research outputs span over 90 publications in top venues like CHI, Nature Machine Intelligence, and IEEE conferences.
