Jun Hu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History of Art at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on Chinese architecture, early modern history, and interregional cultural interactions between China, Japan, and Korea. He holds a Ph.D. awarded in 2014 (institution unspecified).
His current book project, The Perturbed Circle: Chinese Architecture and Its Periphery, explores architectural designs across two millennia, linking them to political, religious, and social thought. This work examines Confucian, Buddhist, and mortuary structures, as well as the role of architectural discourse in intellectual history.
Research interests span architectural historiography, cross-cultural exchanges, and the intersection of material culture with broader socio-political frameworks. His recent work also intersects with public opinion analysis, leveraging digital humanities methods to study Sino-American relations and media impact.
Articles highlight interdisciplinary approaches, from analyzing pandemic-era attitudes via Twitter to exploring AI’s role in understanding human cognition. Earlier work focused on network science, recommendation systems, and gender disparities in academic careers.
