Julius Paul Wesche

Julius Paul Wesche is a researcher at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) within the Department of Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies (KULT), affiliated with the NTNU Energy Transition Initiative. He holds a PhD from Utrecht University (2021) with a thesis on 'Configurational Innovation Systems - Transition Dynamics and Actor Strategies in the German Heat Sector'.

His research focuses on actors, policy systems, and strategies in the energy transition, particularly in Norway and Germany. Key areas include low-carbon technologies (DACCS, CCS, solar, offshore wind), socio-technical acceptance, and innovation systems. He co-hosts three podcasts, including the widely followed NTNU Energy Transition Podcast, reaching 6,000+ listeners biweekly. Wesche advises organizations on digital science communication and founded the Science Communication Accelerator in 2021.

He supervises two doctoral students: Kine Høve Johnsen (hydrogen policy) and Martina Fantini (sustainable aviation). His work spans over 20 peer-reviewed articles, with recent contributions on legitimacy transfer in sustainability transitions (Energy Research & Social Science, 2025), coalition dynamics in policy frameworks (Frontiers in Political Science, 2025), and scaling DACCS deployment (Climate Policy, 2024). He collaborates with Fraunhofer ISI and contributes to Cambridge University Press book projects on sustainability transitions and science communication.
