Dr Julius Akotia is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Engineering & Construction at the School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering, University of East London. He holds a PhD in Construction Project Management, an MSc, and a PG Dip, and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

His research focuses on sustainability in construction, particularly socio-economic drivers in urban regeneration, oil exploration impacts, and mixed methods research frameworks. He has collaborated with institutions like UCL and Routledge on sustainability-related publications.
Recent publications include analyses of social sustainability prioritization (2025), oil exploration consequences in the Niger Delta (2024), virtual reality adoption barriers in China (2024), and methodological works on mixed methods research (2023-2024). His work employs qualitative/quantitative integration to assess regeneration project outcomes.
Externally, he serves as an external examiner for the Central University of Technology (South Africa) and Huddersfield University (UK) in civil engineering and construction project management. He has co-edited journal issues and books on sustainable urban development.
