Julio Camarero de Diego serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Condensed Matter Physics at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and Associated Senior Scientist at IMDEA Nanoscience Institute, where he leads the Nanomagnetism Program. His dual affiliation bridges fundamental condensed matter research with nanotechnology applications through advanced experimental methodologies.
He earned his PhD in Physics from UAM in 1999, followed by research positions at Institut Neel-CNRS in France as a Marie-Curie Fellow and under scientific contracts. In 2003, he returned to UAM as a Ramon y Cajal research fellow before joining IMDEA Nanoscience in 2008.
Dr. Camarero's research centers on Nanomagnetism and Advanced Magneto-Optics, investigating spintronic phenomena and magnetic nanostructures through synchrotron radiation techniques. His work focuses on developing novel magnetic materials and devices using state-of-the-art magneto-optical spectroscopy to probe nanoscale magnetic properties and dynamics.
His scientific contributions include over 80 peer-reviewed publications (exceeding 1,600 citations with an h-index of 22), 11 book chapters, 4 invited papers, and 1 European patent. He has delivered 25 invited talks at international conferences alongside 150+ conference presentations, demonstrating significant impact in magnetic materials research.
Dr. Camarero has coordinated multiple National, Regional, and European research projects, securing competitive funding for his Nanomagnetism Program. While specific student advisement isn't detailed, his leadership roles imply active mentorship of postdoctoral researchers and graduate students in experimental physics.
His major scientific recognitions include:
- Marie-Curie Fellowship
- Ramon y Cajal research fellowship
At IMDEA Nanoscience, he directs the Nanomagnetism Program which operates specialized magneto-optical laboratories and maintains strategic collaborations with international synchrotron radiation facilities including ESRF, DESY, and ALBA, enabling cutting-edge experiments in magnetic characterization.
