Juliette Tinker, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Boise State University (BSU), part of the College of Arts and Sciences. She joined BSU in 2005. Her research focuses on developing mucosal vaccines using non-toxic bacterial enterotoxins as adjuvants, particularly targeting Staphylococcus aureus infections in humans and dairy cattle. Her work aims to reduce antibiotic dependency and improve health outcomes through safe, cost-effective vaccine delivery methods.
Dr. Tinker holds a B.S. from Washington University (1994), a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa (2000), and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (2000–2005). She teaches courses including Introductory Microbiology, Pathogenic Microbiology, and Vaccinology.
Her research group has engineered chimeric proteins combining Staphylococcus aureus antigens with cholera toxin domains to create vaccines effective against bovine mastitis, a costly condition affecting dairy cattle. This work extends to exploring Salmonella enteriditis toxins and their adjuvant potential. Dr. Tinker’s lab has produced patented vaccines, including a Staphylococcus aureus vaccine recognized with the 2012 Idaho Innovation Award.
Her scientific contributions include over 15 peer-reviewed publications, spanning vaccine efficacy, bacterial pathogenesis, and protein engineering. Students mentored include Brad Morris, Connor Richmond, Neha Misra (Ph.D. candidate), and others. Awards for trainees include grants from the International Society of Vaccines (Neha Misra) and poster awards at academic conferences.
Dr. Tinker’s lab fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, addressing global health challenges through innovative vaccine strategies.
