Jenny Schelin

Jenny Schelin is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at Lund University's Faculty of Engineering (LTH), holding dual roles in the Department of Chemistry (Division of Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology) and the Department of Design Sciences (Packaging Logistics). She specializes in food safety and microbial virulence in food systems, focusing on pathogens like Staphylococcus aureus and circular economy practices to reduce food waste. She chairs the National Network for Food Microbiology and serves as secretary in Livsmedelskollegiet.

Research Interests: Her work integrates microbial cultivation, toxin detection methods, and risk analysis to enhance food safety. She collaborates with food industries nationally and internationally, addressing challenges in food processing environments and mastitis in dairy cows. Her research also aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly resource efficiency and sustainable food systems.

Awards: Recognized for teaching excellence, she received the Lecturer of the year 2021, Teacher of the year 2019, and multiple pedagogical awards from student unions. Her contributions to educational development include coordinating the Erasmus Mundus Master's program in Food Innovation and Product Design (FIPDes).

Projects: Leads initiatives like the FORCE Center for Food Resilience and the Siametics project targeting bacterial sialic acid inhibition. She also contributed to Northern Lights on Food and Fermented Food Innovation initiatives.

Teaching: Teaches microbiology, food safety, and molecular genetics to engineering students. Coordinates packaging materials courses and promotes sustainability in food systems through conferences like FIPDes Day 2022/2023.
