Julieanne Lamond is an Associate Professor and currently Head of the School of Literature, Languages & Linguistics at the Australian National University (ANU). She holds a PhD from the University of Sydney on citizenship and 19th-century Australian popular fiction. Her research focuses on literary reception, exploring how literary works circulate and are interpreted over time, particularly in Australian contexts. Key research areas include gender’s role in literary valuation, literature’s interaction with political debates, and environmental literary histories. She co-edits Australian Literary Studies and leads collaborative projects like the Time-Layered Cultural Map of Australia.
Her academic journey includes prior work in media and politics before returning to academia. Lamond has been at ANU since 2008, teaching literary studies while maintaining active research collaborations. Notable projects include studies on poets’ influence in Australian parliament and the environmental ethics of alpine regions. She is registered to supervise research students and has contributed to national initiatives on coercive control awareness through interdisciplinary work.
