Julie Wondergem

Julie Wondergem serves as Professor and Chair of the Chemistry Department at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay within the College of Science, Engineering and Technology.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Marquette University

Her research focuses on synthesizing pharmaceutically active natural products—including an anti-cancer compound derived from tree fruits and bark—and developing molecularly imprinted polymers for chemical sensors targeting flavonoids to combat cancer and heart disease. She employs combinatorial chemistry to optimize sensor reaction conditions, emphasizing health applications through bioactive compound analysis.

Professor Wondergem integrates students directly into laboratory work, guiding them through reaction execution, product purification, and structural characterization across both research streams. Her program bridges synthetic organic chemistry with practical biomedical sensor development.
