John C. DiCesare is an Associate Department Chair and Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Georgia Southern University, with affiliations to the Center for Advanced Materials Science and the Sustainable Fuels Research Network. Previously, he served as Department Chair at Georgia Southern University and held roles at The University of Tulsa and Research Triangle Institute.
Education:
- B.S. in Chemistry from University of Central Florida (1987)
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Georgia Institute of Technology (1992)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship in Medicinal Chemistry at Research Triangle Institute (1993)
Dr. DiCesare's research spans three decades, focusing on Organic, Medicinal, and Materials Chemistry. His work includes synthesizing anti-cancer compounds, developing molecularly imprinted polymers for nerve agent detection, and creating TiO2/SiO2 catalysts for NASA's water purification systems. Current projects explore carbon nanotube functionalization and titanium reagents in asymmetric synthesis.
Recent publications highlight interdisciplinary impacts in Polymer Science, Biochemistry, and Environmental Chemistry. Key trends include the development of visible-light photocatalysts, studies on bioluminescence inhibition, and novel educational resource initiatives in organic chemistry. Collaborations extend to Iowa State University and institutions across multiple scientific disciplines.
Grants & Projects:
- NASA-funded environmental catalyst development
- Army-sponsored nerve agent sensor research
- Multiple industry software grants (CambridgeSoft, Teledyne Isco)
- Merck-funded biological metabolite analysis
