Julie Williams is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at the University of Wolverhampton, affiliated with the Faculty of Education, Health & Wellbeing and the School of Society and Community. She has been a member of the academic staff since 2015 and serves as module lead for key components of the BA Social Work program, including placement modules, ethical practice, and social work law. Julie Williams’ research focuses on critical and often underexplored dimensions of social work practice. Her interests include the health and safety of social care workers, particularly newly qualified professionals; the role of disgust as an emotional and ethical barrier in practice; and how class and religion shape social work values. These themes reflect a deep commitment to improving practitioner well-being and ethical decision-making in complex social environments.
Her recent publications and conference presentations emphasize emotional resilience and the challenges faced during the transition from education to practice. Collaborative work with Pete Ayling highlights qualitative insights into the lived experiences of new social workers, contributing to pedagogical and support frameworks in social work education.
