Julie Vulpius is a Research Fellow at Roskilde University's Department of Communication and Arts, focusing on AI and datafied communication. She participates in the SCAI (Strategizing Communication and Artificial Intelligence) project (2022–2025) and the Beyond the Here and Now of News project (2018–2023), funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. Her work bridges Science and Technology Studies (STS) with media studies, examining audience interactions with AI technologies and the digital transformation of news production and consumption.
Julie holds a BA in Rhetoric and Sociology from the University of Copenhagen and a MA in Persuasive Design from Aalborg University. Before her PhD, she worked as a digitalization project manager in the public sector. Her research interests include AI domestication, audience-centric news strategies, and the evolving dynamics between journalism and technology.
She has received the Top extended abstract award from the ICA Journalism Studies Division in 2020. Julie's contributions span conferences and lectures, including prominent events like the 10th European Communication Conference (ECREA 2024) and multiple engagements with ECREA since 2021. Her projects emphasize strategic communication in AI contexts and long-term audience studies in news ecosystems.
Julie is affiliated with the AIDa (Artificial Intelligence and Datafied Communication) research initiative and collaborates on interdisciplinary projects addressing mediated life and journalism's future. She does not currently advise students but engages deeply with academic grants and institutional digitalization efforts.
