Dr. Julie Skilbeck is a Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing at Sheffield Hallam University's Department of Nursing and Midwifery within the School of Health and Social Care. A registered nurse with clinical experience across adult care environments, she holds an MMedSci in Clinical Nursing from the University of Sheffield and a PhD from the University of Nottingham focused on living with frailty.
Her research examines palliative care for non-cancer patients and the experience of frailty in later life. Current projects include treatment decision-making for frail older people with lung cancer (funded by Weston Park Cancer Charity), evaluation of hospice telephone triage services (Macmillan-funded), and dysphagia management frameworks for care homes. She leads the Cancer and Life Limiting Illness research theme and serves on editorial boards including the International Journal of Palliative Nursing.
