Julie Reuben is the Charles Warren Professor of the History of American Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she has been teaching since 1995. She serves as the inaugural Faculty Director of the Phillips Brooks House Center for Public Service and Engaged Scholarship, focusing on democracy, citizenship, and the intersection of education with societal values.
- Education: Ph.D. in American History, Stanford University (1990)
Her research examines the evolution of educational institutions, particularly the role of religion and morality in shaping modern universities, academic freedom, and political education in the 20th century. Recent work explores hypercompetition in higher education and contemporary challenges in public trust.
Publications include analyses of curricular innovation, classroom politics, and historical studies of student activism. Her 1996 book The Making of the Modern University remains a foundational text in the field.
