Julie Hardwick is the John E. Green Regents Professor of History and a UT Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, College of Liberal Arts. She holds a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University (1991) and focuses on legal, economic, social, and family/gender history in early modern France.

Her research explores intimate relationships, reproductive health, and gendered power dynamics in pre-modern Europe. Her award-winning books include Sex in an Old Regime City: Young Workers and Intimacy in France, 1660-1789 (2020) and Family Business: Litigation and the Political Economy of Daily Life in Early Modern France (2009). She has held multiple NEH research fellowships and led the Institute for Historical Studies at UT as its founding director.
Scientific and teaching honors include:

- UT System Regents Outstanding Teaching Award (2014)
- Distinguished Visiting Research Scholar, University of Uppsala (2014)
- Nine Rapoport-King Awards for undergraduate advising (2005-2024)
Her advisory work centers on undergraduate research, while grants include multiple NEH fellowships. She actively engages in public scholarship through podcasts, public lectures, and media collaborations.
