Julie Hall

Professor Julie Hall is the Vice-Chancellor of London Metropolitan University, appointed in August 2024. Previously, she served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at London Met (2022–2024) and Solent University (2017–2022). Her career spans over four decades in higher education, focusing on inclusive pedagogies, academic quality assurance, and addressing educational disparities. She holds a BA in Modern Arts (Kingston University, 1981), a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching, and a Master's in Urban Education (King's College London).

Her research centers on equitable educational practices, particularly for marginalized groups. Her seminal work Tell It Like It Is: How Our Schools Fail Black Children (2005), co-authored with Doreen Lawrence, critiques systemic racism in education and proposes transformative solutions. This work influenced policy debates and was disseminated through national town hall tours.

Professor Hall's leadership includes roles as Pro Vice-Chancellor at Roehampton University, where she earned a National Teaching Fellowship (2016) for closing awarding gaps and enhancing student engagement. She has also held board positions with Southampton LEP, Southampton University Hospital, and chaired a Schools Educational Trust.
