Julie Gosse

Julie A. Gosse is an Associate Professor of Microbiology at the Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering (GSBSE), University of Maine. Her research focuses on biochemical, molecular, and cellular toxicology, particularly investigating how toxicants affect signal transduction pathways and mitochondria in immune and cellular systems. She has a Ph.D. from Cornell University (2005) and has supervised doctoral students including Lisa Weatherly and Rachel Kennedy (Palmer).

Her work spans antimicrobial agents like triclosan and cetylpyridinium chloride, exploring their mitochondrial toxicity and immune system impacts. She employs advanced microscopy techniques, including super-resolution imaging, to study protein interactions and cellular structures. Key areas include influenza virus pathogenesis, arsenic-induced immunosuppression, and environmental contaminant effects on zebrafish and mammalian cells.

Publications highlight her contributions to understanding triclosan’s role as a mitochondrial uncoupler, arsenic’s disruption of steroid receptors, and nanoscale membrane organization in viral processes.
