Julie Dobrow is a Distinguished Senior Lecturer at Tufts University's Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study & Human Development, with additional roles as Senior Lecturer at Tisch College and Lecturer in Public Health. She holds a PhD in Media Studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
Her research focuses on children’s media consumption, gender/ethnic representation, and women’s history. Key projects include a three-part study on animated programming’s racial/gender stereotypes, media literacy workshops, and the Half the History Project (documenting women’s under-told stories). Notable publications include After Emily: Two Remarkable Women and the Legacy of America’s Greatest Poet (2018) and her upcoming biography Love and Loss After Wounded Knee (2025).
Teaching includes courses on Civic Media and media literacy, with mentorship roles at Tisch College. Awards include the Conch Shell Award (2019) for historical preservation and recognition for her biographical work. She volunteers in educational/environmental committees, chairs the Boston Authors Club, and collaborates with organizations like GBH on children’s media.
