Julie Chartrand is an Associate Professor at the School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa. She holds a research associate position at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Research Institute. Her expertise spans pediatric nursing, patient and family-centered care, and improving healthcare access for Francophone communities.
Dr. Chartrand earned her Doctorate in Nursing (2014) and Master's (2007) from the University of Ottawa, alongside a Bachelor's in Nursing (2002). She specializes in clinical education, having practiced in pediatric critical care and perioperative nursing at CHEO.
Her research focuses on enhancing pediatric care through family collaboration, clinical training innovations, and addressing healthcare inequities faced by Francophone minorities. Ongoing projects include evaluating parent involvement in nursing student assessments and developing culturally appropriate pain management tools for Francophone patients.
Teaching primarily in French, she supervises bilingual students at the master's and doctoral levels. Her work bridges clinical practice, education, and policy to advance equitable healthcare outcomes.
