Julianne Graper

Julianne Graper is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana University Bloomington within the College of Arts & Sciences. Her work bridges sound studies, multispecies ethnography, and protest music, with regional focus on southern Mexico and Texas.

Research explores intersections of music and ecology, particularly in human-animal borderlands through projects like 'Bat City' studies in Austin. Recent publications address cicada phenomena, zoonotic disease discourses, and posthuman soundscapes.

As a translator, she contributes to Latin American music scholarship through works like Experimentalisms in Practice and Musical Life in Colonial Santiago. Her teaching includes courses on world music, sound studies, and music sustainability.
