Dr. Julianne Flanagan is a tenured Professor in the Addiction Sciences Division of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She holds affiliations within the College of Medicine, specializing in clinical psychology and behavioral health research.
Education:

Research Focus: Dr. Flanagan’s work centers on interpersonal violence, PTSD, substance use disorders, and dyadic interventions. Her research emphasizes improving treatments for veterans and addressing alcohol-related aggression and family dynamics in clinical settings. She leverages telehealth and ecological momentary assessment (EMA) techniques to study real-time behaviors and interventions.

- Evaluating telehealth-delivered family interventions for alcohol use disorder among veterans (2022).
- Examining alcohol misuse and PTSD’s impact on intimate partner violence (2023).
- Adapting therapies to reduce alcohol-facilitated aggression in veterans (2024).
Advising & Grants: Dr. Flanagan serves as Principal Investigator (PI) on all three studies listed above, focusing on translational research with clear clinical and public health applications.
