Juliana de Augustinis is a postdoctoral researcher at Tilburg Law School, focusing on comparative empirical legal research in climate litigation across four jurisdictions (Netherlands, India, South Africa, and the U.S.). Her work examines how courts assess scientific evidence in climate-related lawsuits and its impact on rulings. She holds a Master’s in International Technology Law (cum laude) from VU Amsterdam and previously worked as a civil servant and consumer rights lawyer in Brazil.

Research Interests:
Climate litigation, judicial approaches to science, procedural legitimacy, empirical legal studies, and public interest litigation. Her interdisciplinary project explores methods of judicial lawmaking’s impact on public interest case legitimacy.
Publications: Her recent work analyzes judicial engagement with climate science, comparative rulings on mitigation targets, and sentencing practices. Key themes include the interplay between legal and scientific reasoning in climate cases.
Awards: Nominated for the Thesis Award of the Dutch Association of Constitutional Law (2020).
