Julian Riano

Julian Riano is a Lecturer in the School of Business and Law at the University of Brighton, focusing on business sustainability, social capital, and value creation. He holds a PhD from Newcastle University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His teaching spans undergraduate to graduate levels, emphasizing interactive and student-centered approaches in subjects like strategy, entrepreneurship, and research methods.

Research Interests: Julian’s work centers on business sustainability (financial, social, intellectual, human, manufacturing, environmental), social capital, and value creation. He actively contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through his research and supervisory activities, mentoring students in SMEs, entrepreneurship, and strategy.

Awards: He received the Best Paper Award at the 2020 British Academy of Management Conference for his work on social capital and crime in Bogotá. He is a co-chair for the Sustainable and Responsible Business Track at BAM and has presented at EGOS and MKE conferences.

External Roles: Julian serves as an external examiner at the University of Brighton and has held visiting roles at Newcastle University. He is a member of the British Academy of Management (BAM) since 2017.
