Julia Steinberg, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Science at the University of Maryland, College Park’s School of Public Health. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Arizona State University (2008), an M.A. in Social Psychology (2004), and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Toledo (2001). Prior to joining UMD, she was faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco.
Her research focuses on the intersection of psychology and reproductive health, particularly unintended pregnancy and mental health. Central themes include the relationship between abortion and subsequent mental health, with an emphasis on policy implications. Recent work explores how mental health influences unintended pregnancy risk. Her research is supported by NIH and private foundation grants.
Key contributions include studies on contraceptive access, abortion stigma, and the societal impacts of reproductive health policies. Collaborative projects often bridge clinical, psychological, and public health perspectives to address systemic barriers to reproductive autonomy.
