Julia Sero

Julia Sero is a Lecturer in the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Bath, with affiliations to the Centre for Therapeutic Innovation and the Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI). Her research focuses on cell biology, cancer metastasis, and immunological mechanisms, with particular attention to epigenetic regulation, cellular signaling, and mechanotransduction. She holds a PhD in Cell Biology from Harvard University, awarded in 2009 for her work on paxillin's role in lamellipodia formation.

Her research interests span cell migration, cancer progression, and the application of nanostructured materials in biomedical contexts. Notable projects include leading a Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council-funded initiative for multi-user high-content confocal microscopy and a UK Regenerative Medicine Platform project analyzing biomaterial interactions with macrophage polarization. She has published extensively on topics such as 5-hydroxymethylcytosine dynamics in colorectal cancer, microglia phenotype modulation by epigallocatechin gallate, and actin network regulation of NF-κB dynamics.

Dr. Sero’s work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through advancements in health and medical research. She is actively supervising doctoral students and collaborates internationally on interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of biology, engineering, and mathematics.
