Dr. Julia Robinson Moore is an Associate Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), affiliated with the Departments of Africana Studies and History. She holds a position in the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences (CHESS) and serves as Principal Director of The Preserving Sacred Spaces Initiative (PSSI). Her research focuses on American religious history, mimetic theory, historic preservation, and the history of Presbyterianism in Charlotte. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on African American religious history and religions of the African Diaspora.
Her current book project, 'Rethinking Lynching and Mimetic Theory,' examines North Carolina's lynching history through the lens of René Girard. A notable publication is her 2015 book 'Race, Religion, and the Pulpit,' republished in 2024, which explores Detroit's first Black Baptist Church and its connections to figures like Henry Ford and Clarence Darrow during the Great Migration.
Dr. Moore’s work integrates religious literacy, architectural history, and design to preserve unmarked cemeteries linked to Charlotte’s Presbyterian churches through PSSI. She holds the Honors Faculty designation until June 2030, reflecting her scholarly contributions.
