Julia Richmond is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Relations & Advertising at Rowan University's Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts. She holds a Ph.D. from Drexel University and specializes in crisis communication, sports communication, public relations, and public opinion research. Her work examines media coverage of sports crises, racial representation, gender dynamics in media, and pandemic response strategies. Dr. Richmond currently chairs the Division of Communication and Sport for the National Communication Association.
Her research explores intersections like athlete activism, media bias in sports journalism, and corporate social responsibility in social media. Notable projects include analyzing the Green Bay Packers' pandemic communication strategy and Starbucks' handling of racial discourse. She teaches courses on sports branding, reputation management, and public opinion.
Dr. Richmond has received a National Endowment for the Humanities Connections Grant. Her academic contributions span peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, addressing topics from meme culture in politics to feminist media critiques. She actively engages with Rowan's Women’s Basketball team, reflecting her passion for local sports communities.
